Course dates are listed first, with course types and descriptions displayed below them.

You must contact, book and pay the 10% deposit prior to the course start date.

 

The School of Decorative Art caters for beginners (no previous experience required) and advanced students alike with both weekend and full week courses available. All courses cover the introductions to tools and materials as well as the course practice from start to finish.

Tea, Coffee and biscuits provided. There is cafe on site (Mon-Fri), or bring your own and enjoy it in the studio lounge or on the bowling green!

 

Each student will be given handouts on each subject and will be given the opportunity to build that all important portfolio of your work.

A Certificate of attendance will be issued after each course.

Woodgraining & Marbling Comprehensive Course ~

£360 per person.

2nd - 3rd November (Sat - Sun)

Signwriting & Gold Leafing Introductory Course

£155 per person.

Woodgraining & Marbling Introductory Course

£140 per person.

COURSE TYPES

Group Bookings - Fixed £400 per day up to 8 people.

5 - 8 people, priced per day course.

More flexibility for you and your friends, just contact to organise each individual day.

With just one day to work in, you will learn the basics of either Woodgraining and Marbling, or Signwriting and Gold Leafing. 

 

10.00 - 16.00 on days of your preference.

The use of tools and materials are included.

Also includes your own sign/panel to take home and a signed certificate of attendance!

Introductory 2 Day Courses - £140 to £155 per person.

2 - 8 people, priced per weekend course.

The perfect introduction to the decorative arts whether you choose Signwriting or Woodgraining, getting stuck in and painting two full signs/panels.

 

10.00 - 16.00 (usually Saturday and Sunday)

The use of tools and materials are included.

Also includes 2 painted signs/panels to take home and a signed certificate of attendance!

 

Signwriting & Gold Leafing course includes a £15 fee for the 23 1/2 caret real Gold Leaf.

Woodgraining & Marbling

 

A more in depth course than the weekend courses, 

you will learn the following processes:

Preparation: Making & Preparing Panels, Working in both Water and Oil paints and understanding the formation of Woodgrains and Marbles.

Woodgraining: Oak, Mahogany.

Marbling: Vert de Mer, Sienna, Trompe l'oeil shadings.

 

At the end of the course you will have 5 2ft x 1ft signs to take home along with a signed certificate of attendance. 2 of Oak and 1 Mahogany woodgrains, 2 of Vert de Mer and Sienna Marbles.

2 - 8 people, priced per 5 day course. They can range from weekly classes 1 day per week to 5 consecutive days. Mostly 10:00 to 16:00 each day. The use of tools & materials are included.

Comprehensive 5 Day Courses - £375 per person.

Signwriting & Gold Leafing

A more in depth course than the weekend courses, you will learn the following processes:

Preparation: Making & Preparing Signs, Drawing up letters, Scaling Letters.

Signwriting: Block Lettering, Script Lettering, Bash/Poster Lettering, Letter Shading.

Gold Leafing: Transfer Gold Leaf, Glass Gilding

At the end of the course you will have 4 approx 32"x16" signs & 1 glass sign to take home along with a signed certificate of attendance. Before you arrive plan what you'd like your signs to say!

Cancellations

If you should need to cancel your booking before the course, 90% of the course fee will be refunded unless you cancel within 7 days of the course, in which case a 50% refund will be given.

 

Should The School of Decorative Art cancel a course for any reason, a choice of a full refund or the offer of a booking on a course on a later date will be given.

A health and safety induction will be given at the beginning of each course.

Upon application, please include details of any concerns you may have regarding respiratory conditions or skin allergies or any other health issues when working in a painting/workshop environment.

Suitable attire is required. Lint free clothes absolutely recommended, loose and woolly fibres can get in the paint.  In other words, expect to get paint on your clothes and shoes!
