A bit about the man behind The School of Decorative Art
Since 1983 I have worked as a self-employed signwriter, woodgrainer, marbler and decorator. Between 2000 and 2008, I worked as a college lecturer, where I gained a City & Guilds 730 teaching qualification.
I am particularly interested in the specialist areas of the decorative arts and have an in depth knowledge of the traditional processes and materials involved.
I will run courses in the following:
Traditional Signwriting: beginners & advanced,
Wood-graining and Marbling: beginners & advanced,
Gold Leaf Work and Glass Gilding,
Hand Painted Furniture,
Stencilling.
A video of the Signwriting Course held at the Hepworth Gallery can be viewed at the link below (on the left).
To support teaching and learning in the above areas, I have numerous reference books and a wide range of teaching resources.
In addition, I have wider interest in the restoration of listed buildings and Architecture. Below (on the right) is a link to a 45 min film of a restoration project I ran with my colleague Robert Sykora. The project was set up as a view of giving as many students as possible the experience of working on a listed building and the video is about the experience from the students point of view.
